Aga Zaryan sings Miłosz

Wednesday, 15 June 2011
Aga Zaryan’s new album, “A Book of Luminous Things”, devoted to Czesław Miłosz, was released on 14 June.
Aga Zaryan’s music is again a surprise. The artist, known primarily as a jazz vocalist, created a classical album with a string orchestra and excellent instrumentalists. Twelve compositions to the poems of Czesław Miłosz and his favourite poets Anna Świrszczyńska, Jane Hirshfield and Denise Levertov, present a completely different picture of the Nobel Prize winner. They lack the distance, solemnity and esotericism that often obscured the essence of the work of the great poet and thinker. Aga Zaryan introduced an air of musical and poetic magic in her own way.

The marvellous orchestral arrangements are intertwined with atmospheric ballads. The universal and deep nature of Czesław Miłosz’s poetry, coupled with Aga Zaryan’s voice, create the album’s unique atmosphere.
