It is the third time that master courses have been organised as a part of Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival. This year they will be conducted by Teresa Berganza, one of the brightest stars of the 20th-century opera. In the previous years of the festival, vocal master classes were conducted by Ileana Cotrubas (2007) and Christa Ludwig (2008).
Born on 16th March 1935, the Spanish mezzo-soprano Teresa Berganza is considered one of the most eminent interpreters of Rossini’s, Mozart’s, and Bizet’s works by the world’s critics. At the turn of 1970s, she collaborated with the world’s prime operas stages, including the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, and La Scala. In 1992, the singer participated in opening ceremonies of EXPO’92 in Seville and Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona. In 1994 she was the first woman to become a member of the Spanish Academy of Sciences. Berganza teaches singing at Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía and conducts master courses all over the world, the number of students including María Bayo and Jorge Chaminé.
