Christoph Eschenbach assumed the post of the Musical Director of National Symphonic Orchestra in Washington and the Director of John F. Kennedy Centre.
“Christoph Eschenbach is one of the greatest musicians of the world”, said Rita Shapiro, the Executive Director of the National Symphonic Orchestra. “We are greatly satisfy that he will become the Musical Director of National Symphonic Orchestra and the Kennedy Centre.”
Although the German conductor and pianist officially assumes the post in the 2010–2011 season, he will begin his term as the Designated Director already in the 2009–2010 season, and his work with the orchestra even earlier. He is to arrive in Washington in November to participate in orchestra auditions, as there are eight vacancies in the 100-person-strong ensemble.
Ms Elżbieta Penderecka congratulates Mr Christoph Eschenbach on his appointment.
