At the Bregenz Festival 2010, Agnieszka Rehlis will perform the role of the young Jewish woman Hannah in Mieczysław Weinberg’s opera entitled The Passenger. The work, based on a short story by a writer and scenarzystki Zofii Posmysz, a former prisoner of concentration camps, is not performed frequently; even though it was written in 1968, it first appeared on stage in 2006. The opera speaks about the events that took place on board of a ship sailing to South America in 1950s and at Auschwitz Death Camp in 1943 and 1944.
This year, the Bregenz Festival devotes special attention to the works of the Warsaw-born composer, besides The Passenger showing his satirical opera The Portrait and organising a symposium devoted to Weinberg.
The first performance will be held already on 21st July, with successive ones on 26th, 28th, and 31st.
