Soprano, is internationally recognized for her purity of tone and engaging stage presence in opera, oratorio and recital. She was named Boston’s “Musician of the Year, 1998” by the Boston Globe and is in demand in repertoire ranging from Monteverdi to Philip Glass. She is a frequent contributor to Boston Baroque’s subscription concert series, and has performed with them in several premieres of newly-discovered works, including Handel’s Gloria and in two operas associated with Mozart and his circle, Der Stein der Weisen (The Philosopher’s Stone) and Der Wohltätige Derwisch (The Beneficent Dervish.) She has been featured with many other notable North American groups, including the National Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Mostly Mozart Festival in Lincoln Center, Portland Baroque, Philharmonia Baroque, the Jupiter Symphony, National Arts Center Orchestra of Ottawa, Dallas Bach Society, Handel and Haydn Society. Ms. Baker appears on numerous recordings with Boston Baroque, including Mozart’s Solemn Vespers and Coronation Mass, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Lost Music of Early America (Music of the Moravians), Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride, Der Stein der Weisen, Der Wohltätige Derwisch, and Mozart’s The Impresario. Later this season, Ms. Baker will sing the title role in Handel’s Theodora with Boston Baroque.
