Thomas E. Bauer's versatility and unerring sense of style have made him one of the most sought-after baritones of the present day. He performs lieder, oratoria and operas equally well, he enjoys singing the baroque repertoire but also contemporary music. He has recently performed early music under the baton of Bernard Haitink (Bach St. Matthew Passion), with the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam (Bach Christmas Oratorio), with the De Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Haydn Schöpfung), with the Orquesta Barroca de Sewilla (Händel Messiah), he has also made several concert tours with Philippe Herreweghe. His important achievements in contemporary music include the recent performances of Salvatore Sciarrino's Quaderno di strada (Salzburg), Ružicka's Sechs Nietzsche Gesänge (Munich), Penderecki's 8th Symphony – Lieder der Vergänglichkeit for Radio France, which broadcast the concert in 26 countries, works of Luigi Nono, Wilhelm Killmayer and Wolfgang Rihm.
During the 2008/2009 season he will debut in the title role in Peter Ružicka's Celan in a new production and in operas of Peter Maxwell Davies, Monteverdi, Rossini, Berg, Debussy, Busoni, Henze, Rihm and Mozart.
He has recorded all of Robert Schumann's lieder with the pianist Uta Hielscher, he also appears in recitals with the fortepiano specialist, Jos van Immerseel, with whom he performed Schubert's at the Cité de la Musique in Paris.
