Renate Behle was a member of the ensemble of the Hannover State Opera in Germany until 1997. It was there that she performed most of her dramatic soprano repertoire, for the first time: Minnie, Elettra (Idomeneo), Leonore, Sieglinde, Tosca, Ariadne, Färberin, Brünnhilde, Salome, Chrysothemis.
Since the beginning of the 1993/1994 season, Ms Behle has also sung regularly at the Hamburg State Opera. Other important engagements have included Fidelio in Vienna and Stuttgart, Salome at La Scala, Milan and Athens, Isolde in Los Angeles, Chrysothemis in Barcelona, Macbeth in Cologne, Senta at the Deutsche Oper Berlin; Fidelio at the Salzburg Festival; Salome in Buenos Aires, Tristan and Isolde in Houston and Fidelio, Salome and Färberin in Dresden.
On the concert platform, Ms Behle has performed Dvořak’s Requiem, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Shostakovich’s 14th Symphony in Lepizig; Zemlinsky’s Lyrische Sinfonie in Amsterdam and Munich; Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in Granada, and Parsifal and Die Götterdämerung (Brünnhilde) with the Gürzenich Orchestra in Cologne.
Among Ms Behle’s future plans are new productions/performances of Die Walküre in Stuttgart, Götterdämerung in Bonn; Die Walküre in Austin, Texas; all three Brünnhildes in Cologne (the new Ring production), Elektra in Baltimore and Fidelio at the Met.
Renate Behle is also in demand for recordings: to date such recordings have included Zemlinsky’s Der Kreiderkreis (Soltesz) and Spohr’s Jessonda (Gerd Albrecht).
In the 2001/2002 season she sings concert performances with the finale of Götterdämmerung on tour in Switzerland, Hänsel und Gretel at the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome and Mahler’s VIII with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg.
