Cabero Joan

He was born in Barcelona. He studied piano at Conservatorio Superior Municipal de Musica in Barcelona, with Dolors Rosich and Sofia Puche, and singing with his mother, Montserrat Pueyo, and received a diploma with credit. He was also a member of the Madrigalists’ choir led by his father, Manuel. Later he was studying singing with Prof. Helmut Lips at Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart (diploma with credit). He was singing in Süddeutscher Madrigal Chor in Stuttgart for four years.
With his brother, pianist Manuel Cabero, he established a duo which was awarded in the Jeunesses Musicales competition for two consecutive years. In 1987 he was also awarded the second prize in the Yamaha competition, and in 1998, in the Vinas Competition in Barcelona - the Schubert Prize through the unanimous decision of the jury.
Joan Cabero’s repertoire is very broad. Together with his brother, he has gathered and popularized Catalan songs; they created an archive of over one thousand titles, many monographic programs, resulting in the publication of 2 CDs with the songs of such artists as E. Morera, J. Pahissa, or Joan and Ricard Lamote de Grignon. His repertoire also includes Schubert’s Beautiful mill girl and Winter journey cycles, and premiere performances of songs by e.g. Josep Soler, Xavier Montsalvatge and Albert Sarda. The artist cooperates with pianists: Anton Cardo, Joan Rubinat, Bartomeu Jaume, Angel Soler and Juan Alvarez Parejo.
He participated in many international festivals: Perelada, Santander, Torroella de Montgri, Grec de Barcelona, Alicante, Granada, and in concerts of Orquesta y Coro de la RTVE, Orquesta y Coro Nacional, Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid, Orquesta de Galicia, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, Palacio de la Opera de A Coruna, Gran Reatro del Liceo, Palau de la Musica y l’Auditori de Barcelona, Teatre Lliure, el Auditori de Palma de Mallorca and in cycles, e.g. MM. in Barcelona and Juan March Foundation. His opera repertoire, next to premiere performance of works by E. Polonio, J. Pereza Maseda, A. Sarda, A. Blanquer and J. Duran Lorig, includes: W. A. Mozart’s Magic flute and Cosi fan tutte, G. Donizetti’s Love drink and Rita, R. Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman and Nuremberg singers.
He performs tenor voices in J. S. Bach’s passions and in representative oratorios, from Verdi’s Requiem to Mahler’s Earth Song.
In the period 1998-2000 he was performing in the Dortmund municipal opera theatre, where he was signing e.g. Alfred in J. Stauss’s Bat’s Revenge, Belmonto in W.A.Mozart’s Abduction from Serai, and Corentino in G. Meyerbeer’s Dinorah.
