Caruana Lydia

Lydia Caruana was born in Malta. She studied music in Valletta, singing with the soprano Antoinette Miggiani and in master classes with Sona Ghazarian in Vienna. She made her opera debut in La Bohème at the Teatru Manoel in Valletta. She has mostly performed operas by Dionizetti, Puccini, Mozart, Johann Strauss, she also premiers forgotten operas such Jeannot et Colin by a Maltese composer Nicolo Isouardor or I Martiri by another Maltese, Carmelo Pace.
Lydia Caruana performs extensively and has an amazingly broad repertoire. She has sung in major concert halls across Europe including in Vienna, Dublin, Hamburg, Prague, Bologna and all over Germany. In 2006 she presented a Mozart programme at a festival in Valletta and at St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh. She partnered, on different occasions, Josè Carreras and Andrea Bocelli. She performed with the pianist Paul Gulda, with whom she recorded a CD of Mediterranean songs.
In March 2009 she made her debut at the Musikverein in Vienna, singing Sara in Haydn’s Il Ritorno di Tobia with the Wiener Akademie conducted by Martin Haselböck.
