KEVIN DEAS, bass-baritone, is internationally acclaimed for his warm and elegant tone. He has won the hearts of audiences and critics alike for his portrayal of the title role in Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, with Bobby McFerrin conducting the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, National Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Montreal Symphony. He has just completed an engagement in Munich with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Orff’s Trionfo di Afrodite. Mr. Deas made recent concert performances with the Chicago Symphony under Daniel Barenboim, the Utah Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Houston Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, the American Symphony and Vancouver Symphony. He has been featured many times in concert with Boston Baroque; in Mozart’s Requiem and C Minor Mass, in repeat engagements in Handel’s Messiah, and in concert and on the recordings of Der Stein der Weisen (The Philosopher’s Stone) and Der Wohltätige Derwisch (The Beneficent Dervish). His opera highlights include appearances with such companies as L’Opera Français, Dallas Opera, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the Spoleto Festival. He has had a long collaboration with Dave Brubeck: at Carnegie Hall in Gates of Justice and in his mass To Hope! in Moscow. A graduate of the Juilliard School, Mr. Deas has also toured across the US and Europe as the leading vocalist with Riverdance.
