Drabowicz Wojciech

The artist has been performing regularly at the best Polish and foreign theatres.

He was born in Poznań, and in 1974-1984 was a member of the Poznań Nightingales Men's and Boys' Choir, with which he performed in many countries in Europe and South America. He graduated from the Academy of Music in Poznań in Antonina Kawecka's vocal class. He was an award-winner in the following vocal competitions: the Adam Didur Competition in Bytom (1998, First Prize and 12 Special Prizes), the Pyotr Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow (1990, Third Prize and Special Prize), the Belvedere Competition in Vienna (1990, First Prize and 11 Special Prizes).
He has been a soloist with the Wielki Theatre in Poznań since 1989, where he debuted in the title role in Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin". Since that time he has been performing regularly at the best Polish and foreign theatres, offering excellent performances, for example in the parts of Figaro in Rossini's "The Barber of Seville", Papageno in Mozart's "The Magic Flute", Escamillo in Bizet's "Carmen", Almaviva in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro", Guglielmo in Mozart's "Cosi fan tutte", Malatesta in Donizetti's "Don Pasquale", Golaud in Debussy's "Pelléas et Mélisande", Sir Richard Forth in Bellini's "I Puritani", Posa in Verdi's "Don Carlos", Don Carlos di Vargas in Verdi's "La Forza del Destino", Tomsky in Tchaikovsky's "The Queen of Spades", and also the title roles in Mozart's "Don Giovanni" and Szymanowski's "King Roger".
Besides traditional repertoire, Drabowicz often performs in operas by modern composers, including Peter Eötvös ("Three Sisters"), Victor Ullmann ("Der Kaiser vom Atlantis"), Kurt Weil ("Die Sieben Todsűnden"). The artist performs at numerous opera theatres and concert halls, including La Monnaie in Brussels, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Lille Opera, Opera National de Lyon, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Oper Frankfurt, De Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp, The New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Berliner Philharmonisches Orchester, Montreal Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall, Victoria Concert Hall in Geneva, Dublin Symphony Hall, and also the Grand Theatre and National Philharmonic in Warsaw.
Drabowicz has also performed at many world-renowned music festivals, including Wexford, Brighton, Glyndebourne, London (Proms), Bregenz, Sarajevo and Wrocław (Wratislavia Cantans). He has worked with conductors including Claudio Abbado, Charles Dutoit, Sir Charles Mackerras, Kent Nagano, Antonio Pappano, Kazimierz Kord, Peter Eötvös, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky. He has taken part in productions created by such directors as Peter Brook, Jerome Savary, Peter Mussbach, Luc Bondy, and Ursel and Karl-Ernst Herrmann.
The artist has recorded extensively for Polish and foreign radio and television stations (including ORF, RTSR, TROS, Polish Radio and Television, BBC). His CD recordings include Mozart's "Requiem", Szymanowski's "Stabat Mater", Bach's "St. John Passion" and "St. Matthew Passion", Mussorgski's "Boris Godunov" (with the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Claudio Abbado), Peter Eötvös's "Three Sisters" conducted by Kent Nagano).

For his title role in Szymanowski's "King Roger", the artist received the Andrzej Hiolski Award for the best opera part of the 1999/2000 season.
