Dybał Jerzy

Born in Bytom, Poland, in 1977, he began his international career at 15, when he became the youngest member of the famous Gustaw Mahler Jugendorchester; there he worked under conductors such as Claudio Abbado or Pierre Boulez. A laureate of double-bass competitions in Katowice, Bielsko, Elbląg and Poznań, and of the Yamaha Foundation of Europe string grant competition, Warsaw), he recorded for Polish TV, Italy’s RAI Due and Radio France. He played as soloist with chamber ensembles Wratislavia and Concerto Avenna, and with the Prima Vista quartet.
As First Double-bass, he had a five years’ appointment with Sinfonia Varsovia and acted in the same capacity for the Penderecki Festival Orchestra. He helped found, joined, and became solo double-bass of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (initiated by Claudio Abbado). He also collaborated with the Polish Chamber Orchestra, Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie and Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin. He joined the Münchner Philharmoniker in September 2001 and became a temporary member of the Wiener Philharmoniker (Wiener Staatsoper). Attracted to old music performance, he worked with such eminent figures as Trevor Pinnock or Marc Minkowski.
A prized chamber musician, he is a regular of renowned festivals, including “Kwartet Śląski i jego goście” in Rybna, Bravo Maestro in Kąśna Dolna, the Kudowa Chopin Festival, Wrocław’s “Wieczory w Arsenale” and the Festival in Aix en Provence. He collaborates with such artists as K.A. Kulka, J. Stanienda, P. Pławner, V. Brodski, P. Paleczny, W. Malicki, W. Kłosiewicz, J. Kotnowska, S. Kamasa, T. Strahl, R. Kwiatkowski. He is particularly thrown with the Prima Vista quartet and the Kwartet Śląski; together with the latter, he has recorded for the Belgian label R.C.P. His records made for DUX with Prima Vista, Duo Granat, W. Kłosiewicz and K.A. Kulka received two Fryderyk Prizes (major Polish record industry award) in 1999 and 2000. Most recently, to celebrate the Paderewski Year, he founded the Paderewski Chamber Orchestra, which performed at the Paderewski Centre in Kąśna Dolna and at the festival in Spade, Germany, sponsored by the Presidents of Poland and Germany. The orchestra has also made a premiere recording of the Polish composer’s early Suite.
