Miguel Gomez-Martinez
Miguel Gomez-Martinez studied in Granada, Madrid, the USA, as well as in Vienna with Hans Swarowsky. He has conducted the most prominent orchestras in Berlin, Vienna, Munich, Hamburg, London (Covent Garden), Paris, Geneva, Madrid, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Houston, Chicago, Florence, Venice, Rome, Milano (La Scala), Tokyo, and Zurich. Equally at home in the concert halls he has led the Dresde Staatskapelle, the Radio Orchestras of Munich and Cologne, the Bamberg Symphony, the Philharmonia Orchestra London, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra London, the Vienna Symphony as well as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande apart from all the major orchestras in Spain. He was chief conductor of the Madrid RTVE Orchestra (1984-87), the Opera Madrid (1985-91), the National Orchestra San Sebastian. From 1993-96 he held the post of Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the New Finnish Opera Helsinki, the Helsinki Opera, the Mannheim National Theatre, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Valencia Orchestra, the Berne Opera. His recent activities include engagements at the Tokyo New National Opera for productions of Macbeth, Andrea Chenier, and Don Carlo in Vienna and in Zurich Opera where he led Aida and Trovatore revivals. Miguel Gomez-Martinez is also an acclaimed composer. He has made numerous records for the Decca, Orfeo, RCA, TELDEC labels.
