Carl Halvorson, tenor, is in demand internationally as a concert, opera, and recital artist. He made his New York recital debut under the auspices of the Young Concert Artists and has since given over eighty solo recitals in America and Europe, at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw, and at the Music Festivals of Spoleto, Aspen, Aldeburgh, Bergen International, Newport, Saito Kinen (Japan), and the Oregon Bach Festival. Mr. Halvorson has performed with many leading orchestras including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony, Israel Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and Philadelphia Orchestra, under such conductors as Charles Dutoit, Kurt Masur, Seiji Ozawa, and Helmuth Rilling. He is much in demand in particular for his performances of the works of Benjamin Britten, having been invited to give the U.S. premiere of the composer’s The World of the Spirit and has toured his work, Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings throughout North America, and with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra in Spain. Mr. Halvorson is a graduate of Yale University and The Juilliard School and has won numerous competitions, including the Joy of Singing Award and the Elly Ameling Prize from the Hertogenbosch Competition. Mr. Halvorson just completed a run at London’s Barbican Centre, in performances of the title role in Philip Glass’ opera Galileo Galilei.
