Hans Jörg Mammel
Hans Jörg Mammel was born and educated in Stuttgart, where he received his first singing lessons as a member of the Stuttgart Hymnus Boys‘ Choir. Initially he studied law before entering Freiburg Music Conservatoire to study singing with Werner Hollweg and Ingeborg Most. He has taken part in vocal master classes with Barbara Schlick, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and James Wagner as well as a master class in authentic performance practice with Reinhard Goebel.
Hans Jörg Mammel performs as a concert singer throughout Germany and abroad; including the leading music festivals in Utrecht, Schwetzingen, Potsdam, Schleswig-Holstein, Jerusalem, Wrocław, Brügge and Vienna. Renowned conductors he has worked with include Thomas Hengelbrock, Sigiswald Kuijken, Ivan Fischer, Hans Zender, Philipp Herreweghe, Pierre Cao, Ivor Bolton and Masaaki Suzuki.
He has appeared in operas in Berlin, Freiburg and Vienna. He sang the title role in Monteverdi’s Orfeo in Iceland with considerable personal success
He also is in great demand as a lieder singer, he has introduced the public to unknown works by Carl Friedrich Zelter, Johann Friedrich Reichardt, Johann Peter Abraham Schulz and Robert Franz. Among other works he has recorded Schubert's song cycle Die schöne Müllerin in a version for tenor and guitar which received high critical acclaim.
