Engaging audiences with his dynamic flair and virtuosic skill, Peter Jablonski is firmly established as a both a popular and critically acclaimed performer.
Born in Lyckeby, South Sweden in 1971, Peter came to prominence in his early teens, performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in Warsaw and Krakow. This was soon followed by concerts with both the Swedish and Danish Radio Orchestras.
Peter has given concerts on all five continents, both in recital and with various orchestras. He has enjoyed recent collaborations with Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (with whom he has also made a number of recordings), BBC Symphony, Philharmonia, Czech Philharmonic (including performances of Scriabin’s Prometheus under Ashkenazy), Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the London, Stockholm, Bergen and New Japan Philharmonics.
Recent engagements include Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 1 with Orchestre National de France under Osmo Vänskä, Norwegian Radio Orchestra under Rumon Gamba, several appearances with the BBC Philharmonic under Martyn Brabbins, Korean Symphony Orchestra and performances with the Mexican City Philharmonic Orchestra. In North America, Peter has performed with the Cleveland (Blossom Festival), Philadelphia, Detroit and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestras amongst others. He has worked with such conductors as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Daniele Gatti, Yakov Kreizberg, Paavo Järvi, Myung-Whun Chung, Valery Gergiev and Kurt Sanderling.
This season invitations include a return to BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Tonkuenstler-Orchester under Ilan Volkov which will include three performances in the Musikverein, Philharmonia Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, City of London Sinfonia under Hickox, KBS Symphony, Seoul under James Judd, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Rachmaninov cycle with Gavle Symphony, Czech Philharmonic and a number of performances in Norway and Sweden.
He will also appear as part of Al Bustan Festival, Elverum Festival in Norway, in addition to recitals in Milan, Mexico, Sweden, and the UK. He will also be collaborating with members of the Philharmonia Orchestra for a chamber concert in St George’s Bristol which will include Janacek’s Concertino.
Peter Jablonski continues to tour frequently in Japan and recently embarked on his tenth tour with a variety of recital programmes, including a performance at Suntory Hall in Tokyo. He has appeared with a number of Japanese orchestras, including the NHK Symphony, and has toured Japan with Orchestre National de France under Myung-Whun Chung. Last season Mr Jablonski returned to Japan for a tour with the Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchester Berlin performing Beethoven Piano Concerto No.5 under Marek Janowski. Peter Jablonski has also worked with Hong Kong Philharmonic, Singapore Symphony, Malaysian Philharmonic and regularly gives recitals in the Pacific region, with appearances last season in Japan, Seoul, Taipei and Macau.
Peter Jablonski appears regularly in recital throughout the UK and Europe and has performed in major venues such as the Philharmonie in Berlin and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and festivals such as Festival de Radio France Montpellier, Festival Pianistico Internazionale di Brescia, Bergen, Umea and North Norway Festivals.
Last season he featured in London’s South Bank International Piano Series and collaborated with Ralph Kirshbaum as part of the South Bank Centre’s Prokofiev Series. He also returned to the Klavier Festival Ruhr with a programme of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Debussy and appeared in recital and masterclass in Oxford.
Chamber music forms an important part of Peter Jablonski’s schedule. Last season he performed in Istanbul in collaboration with the Istanbul Quartet. He is the Artistic Director of the annual chamber festival in Southern Sweden, and the Falsterbo International Music Festival, where last season he collaborated with soprano Katarina Dalayman.
Peter Jablonski’s latest recording of solo piano repertoire by Chopin was released by Decca in Autumn 2003. His recording of the complete Prokofiev Piano Sonatas was released by Octavia Records in late 2003. Peter has made a number of recordings for Decca including Tchaikovsky's Second and Third Concertos (with the Philharmonia and Charles Dutoit), Scriabin Piano Concerto and Prometheus (with the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin and Ashkenazy), the Gershwin Concerto and a disc including the Rachmaninov Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini (again with Ashkenazy), for which he received an Edison award. He has collaborated with Anne Sofie von Otter and Bengt Forsberg in recording works by Cecile Chaminade which was released on Deutsche Grammphon in 2001 and received a Gramophone Award in 2002. Peter has also recently made recordings for Koch International and Altara Music, including music by Chopin, Liszt, Szymanowski, Stravinsky and Kilar. Peter Jablonski won the Årets Svensk I Världen in 1996. This prestigious annual award is presented to a Swedish personality who has contributed to the worldwide promotion of Sweden. In 1998 he was awarded the 'Orpheus Award' at the Warsaw Autumn Festival for his premiere performance of Kilar's Piano Concerto, which was written for and dedicated to him.
