Kovacic Ernst
With his interpretations of Bach, Mozart and his engagement for New Music, Ernst Kovacic soon established an outstanding role amongst the leading violinists of his generation. Many composers like Křenek, Cerha, Gruber, Schwertsik, Holloway, Osborne have composed for works for Ernst Kovacic. This season he premiered Clemens Gadenstätters' new violin concerto at Wien Modern festival. As soloist Ernst Kovacic played under conductors like Franz Welser-Möst, Roger Norrington, Simon Rattle, Esa Pekka Salonen, Michael Gielen.
He took part in important festivals in Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the UK. From 1996 to 1998 he was artistic director of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. As directing soloist and conductor Ernst Kovacic cooperates with many chamber orchestras including the English Chamber Orchestras, St. Paul´s Chamber Orchestra, the Klangforum Wien, the Ensemble Modern, Camerata Salzburg.
In 2007 he has taken over the artistic direction of the “Leopoldinum Chamber Orchestra” in Wrocław, Poland. With this orchestra he appeared at Flandern Festival, Brücken-Festival and the Warsaw Autumn 2008. Furthermore they have recently completed a recording of all string orchestra works by Ernst Křenek. Shortly their premiere recording of young Beethoven's unknown concertos for violin and orchestra will be released.
