Tilman Lichdi started his first singing lessons at the age of 18 with Alois Treml. Earlier he had studied the trumpet for four years in Mannheim with Günther Beetz. In 1999 he switched to voice studies with Charlotte Lehmann in Würzburg where he passed his finals with distinction. He has deepened his extensive song repertoire in master courses with Ernst Huber-Contwig, Helmut Deutsch and Peter Schreier
His repertoire includes all the major oratoria, he is especially interested in the parts of the evangelists from Bach's passions and oratoria. He has worked with conductors like Christoph Poppen, Wolfgang Gönnenwein and Jörg Straube.
Guest performances have led him to the operas of Wurzburg, Heidelberg, the Munich, Flensburg, Kaiserslautern and Mannheim. Since the season of 2005/06 Tilman Lichdi has been a regular member of the opera ensemble of the state theatre of Nürnberg where is is valued for his performances of tenor roles in Mozart's operas.
