Vahan Mardirossian
Vahan Mardirossian was born in Yerevan, Armenia, in 1975. In 1993, he entered the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) in Jacques Rouvier's piano class. He was also admitted to Jean Mouillère's chamber music class along with Nicolas Baldeyrou (clarinet) and Renaud Dejardin (cello), with whom he formed the Mardirossian Trio. In 1996, Vahan Mardirossian was awarded First Prize for piano, the chamber music Prize, and the Conservatoire's highest diploma. For two years, he furthered his training, following the advice of Jacques Rouvier and taking part in many master classes given by great musicians including G. Sebôk, D. Bashkirov, C. Franck, and J-P. Collard.
Vahan Mardirossian has given recitals in many countries, and his performances have been broadcast in France and elsewhere. His partners in chamber music include fine musicians such as Nicolas Baldeyrou, Henri Demarquette, Renaud Capuçon, Gautier Capuçon, Quartet Castagneri, Devy Erlih, Thierry Escaich, Richard Galliano, David Grimal, Jean Mouillère, Philippe Muller, Jean-Marc Phillips-Varjabedian, Xavier Phillips, Quartet Ysaïe. Ivry Gitlis suggested that they play sonatas together. He has also worked with Mstislav Rostropovich and with Henri Dutilleux.
He has been regularly invited to appear with orchestras including the Orchestre National de France, Yerevan Chamber Orchestra, the Armenian Philharmonic, the Paris International Orchestra, the Portugal Symphonic Orchestra, the Cannes Orchestra, the Ensemble Orchestral of Paris, the Pau Orchestra, the Paris Conservatory Orchestra, French National Orchestra. He has also appeared at many festivals: La Roque d'Anthéron, Rheims (Flâneries Musicales), Cannes (Midem), Chamonix (Les Semaines Musicales du Mont Blanc), Les Arcs (Festival International), Paris (Les TransClassiques), Bagatelle (Chopin Festival), La Chaise Dieu.
Eric Tanguy dedicated his second Piano Sonata to Vahan Mardirossian. The pianist made a live recording devoted to piano works by Eric Tanguy, and J.S. Bach Transcriptions, for TransArt Live label. Vahan Mardirossian made also a recording of works by Schubert, Handel and Brahms for the INTRADA label. 2007 was marked by the release of a recording dedicated to Armenian music (including two of his own works), with Jean-Marc Phillips-Varjabedian and Xavier Phillips.
