Tenor Zvetan Michailov has graduated in opera vocals and opera conducting at the Musical Academy of Sofia, Bulgaria. In 1987 he won an award at the international singing competition Belvedere in Vienna and was immediately engaged to sing the title role in Don Carlos at the Saarbrücken Opera. In 1990 he made his debut in the United States at the Opera of Denver, Colorado, and subsequently at the Opéra National de Paris, replacing Luciano Pavarotti with huge success. Later on the artist has been invited to collaborate with the most important European opera houses, including the Staatsoper in Vienna (La Bohème, Rodolfo, Madame Butterfly, Pinkerton, Un Ballo in Maschera, Gustavo, Der Rosenkavalier, Sänger), the Teatro La Fenice in Venice (Don Carlo, Don Carlo), the Semperoper in Dresden (La Bohème, Rodolfo), Opera Frankfurt (Rigoletto, Duca), an Arena di Verona tour in Frankfurt and Berlin (La Bohème, Rodolfo, Nabucco, Ismaele), the Teatro Massimo of Palermo (Les Contes d’ Hoffmann, Hoffmann, Andrea Chénier, Chenier), the Puccini Festiwal at Torre del Lago (Tosca, Mario Cavaradossi), Theatre Pérez Galdos, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Werther, Werther, Roméo et Juliette, Roméo), Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Liége, Belgium (Ernani, Ernani, Stiffelio, Stiffelio, Attila, Foresto, Il Trovatore, Manrico), Finnish National Opera, Helsinki (La Traviata, Alfredo), Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro (Turandot, Calaf), Opera Leipzig (Carmen, Don Jose), the Warsaw Grand Theatre – National Opera (Carmen, Don Jose), Opera Zürich (Don Carlo, Don Carlo). During the season 2004/2005, Zvetan Michailov made his debut at the Festival of Salzburg (Salzburger Festspiele) in the main role of The Tales of Hoffmann, at the Opera of Rome in Francesca da Rimini in the part of Paolo il Bello, in Andrea Chénier (main role), and at the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, Teatro Comunale of Ferrara, Teatro Reggio of Parma in Il Cosaro as protagonist (CD and DVD), Aida (Radames) at the Opera of Bucharest, and the Festival on the Lake of Bregenz (Il Trovatore, Manrico), at the Arena di Verona (Il Trovatore, Manrico) and at the Teatro Regio of Turin in the same part. Recently Zvetan Michailov has sung in Andrea Chénier in Berlin’s Deutsche Oper , and then Cavaradossi in Tosca at the Staatsoper Hamburg.
