Saxophonist, composer, arranger
This distinguished musician is known both in Poland and abroad. He gave concerts with Mino Cinelu; Poul Kuhn’s Berlin Orchestra and with the American saxophonist Joe Lovano. As an arranger he also participated in many historical recordings, such as: with the Polish Radio and TV Orchestra conducted by A. Trzaskowski and the Stodola Big Band. As a sideman he played in many of Jan „Ptaszyn” Wroblewski’s musical projects. He performed at most the major jazz festivals, including Pori Jazz Festival (Finland), Umbria Jazz Festival (Italy) and Jazz Jamboree (Poland).
His albums: „More love”, „Remembrances” (both recorded with Sinfonia Varsovia), „Kakaruka”, „Ja nie chcę spać” („I don’t want to sleep”), „Lyrics” and his latest album “Full Drive” are selling very well not only in Poland but also throughout Europe. In Poland Henryk Miskiewicz frequently co-operates with such stars as: Anna Maria Jopek; Jan Ptaszyn Wroblewski; Wojciech Karolak, Leszek Mozdzer .
Miskiewicz participated in a number of radio programs and TV shows. A very significant event in his career was his concert at the carnegie Hall alongside with Anna Maria Jopek and a famous Polish band Skaldowie in January 2004.
His work has been recognized not only by the audience but also by the critics, which is evidenced by many awards and honors. Namely, all of his albums were nominated for the Polish musical award of FRYDERYK, „Lyrics” won FRYDERYK 2002 for the best jazz auteur album and Henryk Miśkiewicz won the award of the Polish Radio, Station 3, called MATEUSZ, for lifetime achievement.
Presently, Miskiewicz is touring with symphonic orchestras all over Poland playing Altissimonica, a concerto composed specially for him by a great Polish jazzman, Jan Ptaszyn Wroblewski. The project has already become a separate album (titled Altissimonica). It’s premiere is foreseen for the October 22nd 2004 at the JVC Jazz Festival in Warsaw.
Henryk Miśkiewicz was the winner of the Jazz Top survey, organized by the monthly publication Jazz Forum, in the years 1992 - 1997 and 2002 – 2004, in the category of alto saxophonist.
