Alicia Nafé, Spanish singer, born in Argentina, started to study music in Buenos Aires, obtaining first prizes in all the important singing competitions in her country (Promociones Musicales, Harmonicus, Sociedad Hebraica).
She obtained a scholarship from the Instituto de Estudios y Publicaciones and travelled to Madrid to continue her studies in the Escuela Superior de Canto. Some months later she obtained the "Maria Ros de Lauri Volpi First Prize” (Madrid) and the "Francisco Vinas Prize” (Barcelona).
Alicia Nafé is both an opera and a concert/recital singer. Her interpretation of Fauré’s and Debussy’s "Melodies" was acclaimed in Paris (Opera Comique and Athenée), as well as her work singing pieces by Berlioz, Mahler, Schubert, Brahms, and Wagner (Wesendonk Lieder).
She has sung in recitals in Köln, Frankfort, Hamburg, Edinburgh, Brussels, Paris, Geneva, Venice, Buenos Aires Teatro Colón), Rome, Milan (Teatro alla Scala, mostly with the pianist Miguel Zanetti.
She was invited to sing in the Bayreuth Wagner Festival and immediately re-invited to sing again in the following season. Some time later, she was appointed first mezzo-soprano in the Hamburg Opera, where she stayed five years.
She has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, Polydor, Decca, Erato, Telarc, Lyre, Sony CBS, Denon, Art Nove y Naxos, the following titles: Le Nozze di Figaro, Cosi fan Tutte, La Clemenza di Tito, Rodelinda (together with Joan Sutherland), Madrigales and Arias by Monteverdi, La Vida Breve, El amor brujo, 7 Popular Spanish Songs and the oratorio "Elijah" under Wolfgang Sawallich.
Her CD with “Spanish and Argentinian Songs” (Frankfurt-Bellaphon) obtained the prize of the German specialized critics.
She inaugurated the Teatro Real of Madrid with “La Vida Breve”. Later, she sang the protagonist role of “Carmen” in the same hall. She has also sang “Carmen” in the most important international halls in cities such as Berlin, Hamburg, Chicago, San Francisco, Teatro Colón and Metropólitan of New York.
