Nikitin Evgeny

Born in 1973, bass-baritone Evgeny Nikitin entered the Musical College of Murmansk as a choral conductor and in 1992 continued his studies at the Vocal Faculty of the St Petersburg Conservatoire, where Bulata Minzhinkieva taught him. In 1998 he won the second prize in the International Rimsky-Korsakov Competition in St Petersburg and during his fourth year at the Conservatoire he joined the Mariinsky Theatre. He has subsequently taken part in tours to Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Switzerland, Great Britain and the USA. At Ravello, he performed in PARSIFAL with Matti Salminen and Placido Domingo. During the Mariinsky Theatre Festival at the Metropolitan Opera of New York he performed the eponymous role THE DEMON and Banquo, MACBETH for Maestro Gergiev. He currently appears regularly in new productions at the Mariinsky Theatre. He has sung THE DEMON at the Chatelet Theatre, Paris with great critical acclaim and most recently DON GIOVANNI at the Opera de Marseille

He has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera with performances of OEDPIUS REX and Fasolt, DAS RHEINGOLD and Colline, LA BOHEME and he will return for Pogner in DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NURNBERG. Other future engagements include his debut at the Washington Opera singing Thibaut in Tchaikovsky’s THE MAID OF ORLEANS. In 2006, he will perform Fasolt, DAS RHEINGOLD for Sir Simon Rattle at the Aix-En-Provence Festival and at the Salzburg Easter Festival. He will debut at the Paris Opera for performances of Jochanaan, SALOME and the Herald in LOHENGRIN. This season Mr Nikitin will make his debut as BORIS GODUNOV for the Theatre du Chatelet.

His recordings include Boris Godunov (1997) and Semyon Kotko (2000) with Philips Classics.
