This Polish bass graduated from the Łódź Academy of Music in 1985. He has won prizes at the vocal competitions in Warsaw, Kudowa, Bytom and Krynica. He took part in the finals of the "Belvedere" International Vocal Competition in Vienna, a success that brought him to Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where he debuted in the title role in Rimsky-Korsakov's The Tale of Tsar Saltan (1987). He won a prize in the Luciano Pavarotti Competition in Philadelphia and was subsequently invited to sing the part of Wurm in Verdi's Luisa Miller. He has also performed in Washington and at the Pablo Casalsa Festival in Puerto Rico. Following his return from the United States in 1990, he has frequently sung at the Royal Theatre de la Monnaie in Brussels. In recent seasons, he has performed in Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov (Pimen) and Dvořák's Dmitri (Job) at the Munich Opera; Monteverdi's Ritorno di Ulisse in Patria, Puccini's Tosca and Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier at the Flanders Opera in Antwerp, and in Lombards in Bologna and Wiesbaden. He has taken part in many concerts of oratorio works, and has been a guest at the international festivals in Edinburgh and Granada. He is a soloist of the Grand Theatre - National Opera in Warsaw. He has sung the parts of Klingsor in Wagner's Parsifal, Skołuba in Moniuszko's The Haunted Manor, Walton in Bellini's I Puritani at Teatro la Fenice in Venice (1995), where he was also invited to perform in Tchaikovsky's Mazeppa. At the Grand Theatre - National Opera in March 2000 he performed in Szymanowski's King Roger (Archbishop), in February 2001 the part of Zbigniew in Moniuszko's Haunted Manor, in June 2001 the part of Lodovico in Verdi's Otello, in December 2002 the part of Masetto in Mozart's Don Giovanni, in December 2003 the part of Brander in Berlioz's La Damnation de Faust, in October 2004 the part of Cesare Angelotti in Puccini's Tosca. and in December 2004 the part of Surin in Tchaikovsky's The Queen of Spades.
