Mary Phillips, mezzo-soprano, has won praise and return engagements for her performances in a wide range of repertoire. Her international opera debut took place in Tenerife in concert performances of Die Walküre. She has just completed an engagement at the Gran Teatre Del Liceu in Barcelona as the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos, and will soon perform the role of Erde in the Scottish Opera’s Ring Cycle. She has performed extensively in opera in the United States, with the major opera companies of San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, Virginia, and Sarasota, in widely ranging roles including Junon in Rameau’s Platée, Adalgisa in Norma, Dorabella in Così fan Tutte, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, the title role in Carmen, Hermia in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Sister Helen Prejean in Jake Heggie’s new Dead Man Walking. Equally in demand on the concert stage, Ms. Phillips has performed with many of the outstanding orchestras in North America, including the Atlanta Symphony, American Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony, and the Pittsburgh Symphony. A graduate of Yale University, Ms. Phillips has won the Kennedy Center National Acting Award, the Bel Canto Foundation of Chicago Competition, and is a Regional Winner of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions. She will be featured later this spring in Boston Baroque’s concert performances of Handel’s Theodora.
