Patrycja Piekutowska
Patrycja Piekutowska is one of the most renowned Polish violinists. She has pursued an intensive solo career in Poland and abroad – on five continents – for 13 years. In May 2003 she received a prestigious Belvedere International Achievement Award in Warsaw, which is given to young Polish artists for outstanding international success.
She is the first ever violinist from Poland who, in January 2008, received MIDEM Cannes Classical Award. The distinguished recording, devoted entirely to the music of Krzysztof Penderecki, contains her interpretation of the Capriccio for violin and orchestra. This CD received also Les Crescendo Joker Award in Belgium, Pizzicato Supersonic Award in Luxembourg as well as Exelentia Scherzo Award in Spain.
In September 2007 she received a Ph. D. degree from the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. She studied at the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, in the class of Prof. Tadeusz Gadzina, graduating with distinction in 2000. She subsequently attended a two-year postgraduate studies with Maestro Igor Oistrakh at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, gaining the “Grand Distinction” diploma in 2002. Since 2002 Piekutowska has been teaching at the Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw.
In Uruguay she gave a recital with the renowned Polish pianist Janusz Olejniczak and a concert with the Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra. In November 2003 she appeared with Maestro Igor Oistrakh in Bach’s Concerto in D minor for two violins at the Warsaw National Philharmonic Hall and Katowice Philharmonic.
In February 2006 she gave the European premiere of Roxana Panufnik Violin Concerto “Abraham” with the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Gabriel Chmura, during the 25th Contemporary Music Festival “Musica Polonica Nova” in Wrocław.
She has played in a duo with Beata Bilińska for three years. Together they recorded two CDs, both awarded with the prestigious European distinction, the “Pizzicato Supersonic Award” in Luxembourg. Those recordings received enthusiastic reviews in “The Gramophone” and “The Strad”.
In November 2008, apart from her appearance at Krzysztof Penderecki Festival, the artist will give two recitals on the occasion of the composer’s 75th birthday: in Washington and New York.
