Redmon Robynne

American mezzo-soprano Robynne Redmon has won international acclaim. She has performed leading roles with the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Bavarian State Opera, Dallas Opera, San Francisco Opera and Berlin State Opera. Her orchestral appearances have included performances with the Cincinnati May Festival, the Casals Festival, Montréal Symphony, and the Israel Philharmonic. She has worked with such esteemed conductors as Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Valery Gergiev, Christian Thielemann, Charles Dutoit and James Conlon.
Ms. Redmon's breakthrough came with Lyric Opera of Chicago in 1997 when she portrayed Adalgisa in a new production of Norma to great critical and popular acclaim. She has since returned there for Fenena in Nabucco and Laura in La Gioconda. She made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1996 as Maddalena in Rigoletto, and was invited back the following season (1998) to sing Marina in Boris Godunov. Other major debuts followed: Fenena in Munich in 1998, La Haine in Gluck’s Armide at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala in 1999, and Adalgisa in Norma at both Opéra de Marseille and the Berlin State Opera in 2000.
Following her New York City Opera debut as Suzuki in Madama Butterfly in 1991, Ms. Redmon went on to become a leading mezzo-soprano in the house where she received outstanding notices for her fiery, yet elegantly sung Carmen. There she also became known for her interest in performing contemporary works. She was seen in the first United States production of Mathis der Maler, in Harvey Milk and as Vashti in the world premiere of Hugo Weisgall’s Esther. Other premieres include the United States premiere of Conrad Susa’s Black River and Stephen Oliver’s Beauty and the Beast, both with Opera Theatre of St. Louis. She also performed the Penderecki Credo with the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico.
Ms. Redmon's operatic credits also include a highly acclaimed Azucena in Il trovatore with Opera Queensland, Dalila in Samson et Dalila with Atlanta Opera, Léonor in La Favorite with L'Opéra Francais de New York, and Lucretia in The Rape of Lucretia with Opera Theatre of St. Louis. Other roles that she has performed on stage include the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos, Amneris in Aida, Giovanna Seymour in Anna Bolena, and Lucretia in The Rape of Lucretia. Her orchestral repertoire includes the Verdi Requiem, Mahler's Eighth Symphony, Berio's Folk Songs, Falla's El Amor Brujo, Mahler's Second Symphony, and Berlioz' Les Nuits d'Été.
Robynne Redmon begins the 2001-2002 season with performances of the title role in Carmen with the Milwaukee Symphony. She then sings the role of Princess Eboli in a new production of the five-act French version of Don Carlos with Boston Lyric Opera. She performs the Verdi Requiem with the Pacific Chorale, and Philip Glass' Symphony No. 5 with the Choral Arts Society of Washington. In January 2002 she performs Adalgisa in Norma with Fort Worth Opera. In the spring she travels to Cracow to perform the Dvorak Stabat Mater with the Beethoven Festival, before singing a concert of French arias with the Buffalo Philharmonic and Julius Rudel. She then reprises the role of Princess Eboli with Minnesota Opera. She concludes her season with the role of Mother Marie in a new production of Dialogues of the Carmelites with Glimmerglass Opera.
