Friedemann Röhlig studied piano, harp and conducting at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Conservatory in Leipzig. After private study with Christa Maria Ziese in Leipzig he went on to work with Professor Julia Hamari at the Conservatory in Stuttgart. Further musical impulses were gathered at Professor Konrad Richter’s Lieder Classes in Stuttgart and with the well-respected Stuttgart coach Carl Davis.
After spending a year at the Opera Studio in Düsseldorf he was engaged at the State Theatre in Kassel. Next season he will appear at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam and San Francisco Opera. Alongside his engagement in Kassel, Friedemann Röhlig has sung at many of the large opera houses in Germany and the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam. He will shortly sing at the Salzburg Festival and the Musik Festival Dresden.
Friedemann Röhlig has sung with renowned conductors such as Gerd Allbrecht, Helmuth Röhlig, Hartmut Haenchen; was the subject of a radio portrait and is shortly due to record C.M. von Weber’s Der Freischütz for CD and radio. His opera repertoire includes roles such as Sarastro, Osmin, Colline, Banco, Fesco, Rocco, Commendatore; his concert repertoire - masterpieces such as Verdi’s Requiem, Haydn’s Creatio, the Bach Passions and a broad range of Lieder cycles.
