Born in Paris, Philippe Rouillon made his vocal studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and later at the Paris Opera Studio. He was awarded the First Prize in the Opera category and the audience award during the international competition at Verviers as well as the first vocal prize at the competition in Rio de Janeiro in 1983. Philippe Rouillon is guest on numerous well-known stages in Vienna, Paris, the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam Lisbon, Strasbourg and Liège. He also sang in London, Madrid, Utrecht, Zurich and Tel-Aviv. In Italy he appeared in Les Contes d´Hoffmann at the Scala in Milan as well as in Sassari and Naples. He often sings in Germany (Bonn, Cologne, Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart and Dresden) and makes regular guest-appearances in Bregenz, Salzburg, in Canada, the USA and South America. Philippe Rouillon´s enormous discography presents the artist in some of his most important roles , including Mephisto in La Damnation de Faust under F. Luisi ; Thoas (Iphigénie en Tauride) under Ivor Bolton ; Saint François d’Assise (title part) with Kent Nagano. Last season, Philippe Rouillon performed as Mephisto in La Damnation de Faust in Tel-Aviv, Germont and Nabucco in Hamburg and Lelio (The Captain) in Berlin, Gérard in Andrea Chénier at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig ; he sang at the Wiener Staatsoper in Les Contes d´Hoffmann and at the Opéra Bastille as Roi de Trèfle in L’Amour des trois oranges, and as Comte des Grieux at la Scala.
