education at the Staatskonservatorium in Würzburg. First engagements with the theatres in Regensburg and Aachen. He completed his musical studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
The artist has been a regular member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein for many years, interpreting all main bass roles in particular of the so-called German Repertoire and he has still a guest contract with this theatre. Hans Tschammer is a frequent guest performer of the leading international opera houses, so with the Berlin State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, in Münich, Stuttgart and Hamburg. He had engagements with the Bayreuth Festival, La Scala di Milano, Metropolitan Opera New York, San Francisco, Covent Garden London, Paris, Toulouse. For the Vienna State Opera he sang recently Landgraf in Tannhäuser and the same role also for the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Rome (2001) under the direction of Myung-Whun Chung. For the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona he interpreted the role of König Heinrich/Lohengrin in the Hamburg staging of Peter Konwitschny (1999/2000 season). Teatro alla Scala di Milano, new production of Fidelio/ Rocco, 2002/2003 season.
