Born in Australia he studied in Sydney and Vienna. During the first years of his career he became well-known as a Mozart-tenor before approaching slowly the heavier repertoire. In 1996 he sang his first Florestan with Bregenz Festival, in 1997 his first Erik in Rome, in 1998 Hüon (Oberon) in Antwerp and Wagner’s Rienzi when making his debut with the Vienna State Opera. In 1999 he sang Max (Der Freischütz), Apollo (Daphne) and Samson (Samson et Dalila), in 2001 his first Lohengrin in Sydney and his first Kaiser (Die Frau ohne Schatten) at London’s Covent Garden.
In 2002 he gave his debut with Bayreuth Festival singing the title-role of Tannhäuser for the first time in his career. In 2004 he sang his first Siegmund (Die Walküre) in Melbourne. Glenn Winslade is also a highly acclaimed concert soloist mostly for the following repertoire: Gurrelieder (Schönberg), 8th Symphony and Das Lied von der Erde (Mahler), Von deutscher Seele (Pfitzner), The Dream of Gerontius (Elgar) and Messa da Requiem (Verdi). He performed within the last few years at the New York Metropolitan Opera (Die Frau ohne Schatten) and most recently at the Hamburg State Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, at London’s Royal Albert Hall, at the Berlin Konzerthaus, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, at the Dresden and at the Munich Philharmonic Hall, at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, in Monte Carlo, with the Styriarte Festival in Graz as well as in Vienna’s famous concert halls.
Upcoming new roles on opera stage include Enée (Berlioz' Les Troyens), Stolzing (Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Bacchus (Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos), Laca (Janácek's Jenufa) and the role of Kardinal Albrecht (Hindemith's Mathis der Maler).
