When Yuri Bashmet gathered together some of the best graduates of the Moscow State Conservatory, the first performance of the ensemble took place in the Great Hall of the Conservatory on 19 May, 1992; the second - at the Pleyel, Paris, on 21 May. Today this ensemble is described as "one of the best in the world in this genre" (Davar, Israel) or "the voice of the country" (Il Tempo, Italy). Audiences in Europe, America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand seem to concur with such statements.
The ensemble has performed in such well-known concerts halls as the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Musikverein in Wien, the Concertgebau in Amsterdam, the Santory Hall in Tokyo, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Barbican in London, the Tivoli in Copenhagen, the Cite de la Musique in Paris and the Academia Santa Cecilia in Rome. The ensemble has played with such eminent soloists as S. Richter (piano), G. Kremer (violin), M. Rostropovich (cello), S.Chang (violin), V. Tretyakov (violin), M. Vengerov (violin), V. Repin (violin), S. Mintz (violin), B. Hendrix (soprano), J. Galoway (flute), L. Harrel (cello), M. Brunello (cello), N. Gutman (cello), K. Tunemann (bassoon), M. Portal (clarinet).
In 1994, the ensemble made a CD recording for EMI with G. Kremer and M Rostropovich. In 1998, a recording was made of the works by Shostakovich and Brahms for Sony Classical. This CD was nominated for Grammy and the Strad magazine dubbed it “the best recording of the year.” The ensemble took part in such significant musical festivals as the Rostropovich Festival in Evian, France, the Musical Festivals in Montreux and Verbier, Switzerland, the Sydney Music Festival, Australia, the Bath Music Festival, the Promenade Concerts in London’s Albert Hall, England, the Prestige de la Musique at the Playel, Paris, the Sony Classical at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, the Semaines Musicales en Tours, France, the December Nights, Moscow, Russia.
The group has participated in various TV programmes in Russia and abroad. Their concerts have been broadcast or recorded by leading world radio stations such as BBC, Bavarian Radio, Radio France, or NHK. The repertoire of the Moscow Soloists is rich and diverse: it comprises both masterpieces of world classics, works by contemporary composers and those of the past which are rarely performed.
