Warsaw Boys’ Choir was established in 1990 at Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw as an iniciative of prof. Andrzej Chorosiński, then the rector of the Academy. The founder, artistic director and conductor of the Choir is Krzysztof Kusiel-Moroz, the lecturer and academic of the Choral Conducting Department. The members of the choir are boys between 8-14, pupils of Warsaw primary schools. Since 1998 the integral part of the Choir has been the Male Choir, consisting of pupils of secondary schools, former members of the Boys’ Choir. Warsaw Boys’ and Male Choir (that has been the name of the Choir since 1998) gives about 30-40 concerts annually in Poland and abroad. The Choir performs hundreds of pieces by Polish and foreign composers of various periods, ranging from Gregorian chants through the pieces of masters of Renaissance such as Palestrina, oratorio masterpieces of Baroque, pieces of Classicism and Romanticism to contemporary compositions.
The Choir cooperates with distinguished conductors such as Antoni Wit, Kazimierz Kord, Grzegorz Nowak, Jacek Kaspszyk, Yoav Talmi, Philippe Herreweghe and Krzysztof Penderecki, whose pieces are in the repertoire of the Choir, orchestras and world famous singers. Although the history of the Choir is not very long, its performances are highly acclaimed by the audience and music critics. The important part of the activity of the Choir are concert tours. The Choir visited Netherlands, Germany, France, Lithuania, Japan – Tokio, Osaka, Nagoi, Hiroshima, Nagasaki (in 1999, 2001 and 2003). In September 2000 the Choir performer Passion by Penderecki at Echternach Festival in Luxemburg. The Choir cooperates with the biggest musical institutions in Poland – such as National Philiharmonic, Grand Theatre – National Opera, Wratislavia Cantans International Festival.
Despite its short career the Choir has recorded a number of CDs such as: Stabat Mater G.B. Pergolesiego (1996), Matins by Penderecki, music by M. Lorentz for To kill the Sekal movie (1998), Choral music of German romantics, CD with carrols, the world premiere recording of Star Child by G. Rumb (which was awarded Grammy in 2001), Credo and Passion by Penderecki. The Choir has also taken part in the recording of The Magic of Hearts the last CD of Zdzisława Sośnicka.
