Born 1987 in Warsaw. Daughter of a great Polish actor, Ignacy Machowski (d. 2001). She has considerable artistic achievements for her young age. She has performed some of the most difficult violin repertoire in all European countries as well as in the USA, Canada, Japan, China and Israel. The artist started her foreign concert tours in 1996 when she performed for Pope John Paul II in the Clementine Hall at the Vatican (at the age of 8). She has also appeared at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Disney Hall in Los Angeles, the Great Hall of Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the Mozarteum Grosser Saal in Salzburg, and the Conservatories in Bern, Lausanne, Geneva, Basel, Locarno, Vienna and Madrid. In Poland she has performed with most philharmonic orchestras, including the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sinfonia Varsovia.
Maria Machowska has worked with many eminent conductors such as Jerzy Maksymiuk, Jan Krenz, Jacek Kaspszyk, Mark Minkowski, Enrique Bátiz, Tadeusz Strugała, Wojciech Rajski, Tadeusz Wojciechowski, Saulius Sondeckis, Eduard Schmieder, Wolfgang Marschner, Nikolai Dyadiura, Ryszard Zimak, Łukasz Borowicz, Jerzy Kosek, Jerzy Swoboda, Piotr Wijatkowski, Tomasz Bugaj, Włodzimierz Szymański, Michał Dworzyński, Jan Miłosz Zarzycki, Czesław Grabowski, Miguel Gomez Martinez, and Roman Rewakowicz.
She has performed with celebrated musicians, including Ida Haendel and Konstanty Andrzej Kulka. In 2003, on the occasion of the International Day of Music, she performed Pablo Sarasate’s Navarra in a duo with Vadim Brodski. The concert at the Warsaw Philharmonic Hall was broadcast live on Polish Television.
The artist has made recordings for Polish, Japanese, German, French and Swiss televisions. Her performance of Karol Szymanowski’s “Roxana’s Song” in Calgary, Canada (2003) was awarded and recorded on a commemorative CD for Mount Royal College Conservatory. The violinist’s recordings also appeared on CDs from Master Classes in Łańcut, from live concerts in Swiss conservatories, on Barbara Kaszuba’s CD, and on CDs documenting the International Wieniawski Competition. Maria Machowska won Fifth Prize at the 13th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poznań (2006), Special Prize at the International Leopold Mozart Competition (2006), First Prize at the International Violin Competition “Young Paganini” in Wrocław (2004), and Third Prize at the International Competition for Young Violinists in Honour of Karol Lipiński and Henryk in Lublin (2003).
In 2007, the artist was awarded the “Young Poland” fellowship. Maria is a graduation year student at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw in the class of Prof. Konstanty Andrzej Kulka.
She has been a member of the Sinfonia Varsovia orchestra since July 2008 and its concertmaster since September 2008.
