About the festival

4rd Piano Festival

General Director: Elżbieta Penderecka

The Piano Festival continues the “Masters of the Piano” Piano Festival initiated by Elżbieta Penderecka in Kraków in 2001. Since 2004, the Festival has been held annually in Warsaw, and plans for the 2006 concerts include also other cities of Poland. The Piano Festival aims at promulgation of classical, and especially piano, music. Its objective is to promote young pianists, Polish and foreign, and to present to the public the winners of the most important international piano competitions and great virtuosos of the piano.
Even this day, when the European Union has opened its borders, many a talented Polish and foreign musician has not had the opportunity and/or financial capacity required for international promotion of their talent. Thus the Piano Festival presents not only young pianists in Poland but also supports their international promotion. The organiser of the Festival, Ludwig van Beethoven Association, stays in touch

with international piano competitions, including the Van Cliburn Piano Competition (USA), Géza Anda Concours, and Ludwig van Beethoven Klavier Wettbewerb. The fruit of this cooperation is information about guarantee of appearance at the Piano Festival in Warsaw for the winner of the 1st or also 2nd prize in the competition newsletters.
Another objective of the Festival is promotion of classical music among children and youth. For this reason, every year the programme of the Festival includes concerts dedicated to families with children. The Festival offers special promotion packages for students.

The 4th Piano Festival – to be held from 25th to 29th November 2006 in Warsaw – shall present piano music in three different perspectives: through the concerts of young virtuosos: 11-tear-old Yulia Vanushina; though the performances of young winners of prestigious piano competitions: Alexei Volodin and Berenika Zakrzewski; and through the recitals of their masters, eminent pianists from Europe and America, as Cyprien Katsaris, Garrick Ohlsson, and Boris Berman.
There will be a concert of Sergey Koudriakov, the winner of Concours Géza Anda 2006, and Mei-Ting Sun the laureate of 7th Chopin Competition in Miami.
